Why is my baby waking so early?

- Written by Eva Beke, Founding Sleep Consultant at Sleepy Little Bubs

Early morning waking may be connected to:

  • Bedtime being too early or too late

  • Too much or too little daytime sleep

  • The timing of the final nap

  • Hunger

  • Light entering the room

  • Household or environmental noise

  • Temperature changes

  • An age-appropriate morning wake time

Morning sleep is naturally lighter, so small environmental changes that do not affect your baby earlier in the night may wake them between 4.00 am and 6.00 am.

Before moving bedtime later, look at your baby’s entire routine and total sleep over 24 hours.

Small changes are generally more useful than suddenly extending the final awake period by an hour or more.
